Faces behind the research at our lab.

Dr. Anujan Ramesh is an Assistant Professor in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of the Pacific. His work sits at the interface of biomaterials, drug delivery, and immunoengineering, with the goal of developing fundamentally new strategies to enable the delivery of complex therapeutics.

He received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he developed nanomaterial-based approaches to modulate the tumor microenvironment and enhance immunotherapy. He completed his postdoctoral training at Harvard University in Bioengineering, focusing on advanced biomaterial systems for biologic stabilization and delivery.

Dr. Ramesh’s work has been recognized by the BMES Career Development Award and the Society for Biomaterials Outstanding Student Research Award, and is supported by the PhRMA Foundation Faculty Starter Grant. His research program is driven by a vision to bridge fundamental materials science with translational impact in human health.

Abhishek Jani

Graduate Student

Abhishek Jani is a Ph.D. researcher in Pharmaceutical Sciences with a strong interest in bridging fundamental science with practical drug delivery solutions. He completed his undergraduate training in pharmaceutical sciences in India, where he developed a curiosity for understanding how drugs behave within complex biological and material systems.

His research interests lie at the intersection of molecular dynamics, thermodynamics, and kinetic modeling. He has worked on predicting the physical stability of complex formulations, such as amorphous solid dispersions, by combining computational simulations with experimental approaches, and has explored techniques like kinetic Monte Carlo methods to understand long-term behavior. He is currently a member of the Ramesh Lab, where his work focuses on developing ionic liquid–based drug delivery platforms to improve solubility, stability, and therapeutic performance.

Outside the lab, Abhishek enjoys working out, ice skating, traveling, and engaging in collaborative and social environments.

Graduate Student

Jesse Ayim Buabeng is a Ph.D. student in Pharmaceutical Sciences and obtained his undergraduate degree in Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Health and Allied Sciences in Ghana. His journey into research began with computer-aided drug discovery, where he developed an interest in using computational tools to understand and predict drug behaviour. Jesse’s earlier work has led to peer-reviewed contributions in reputable journals including discovering novel MDM2 inhibitors from fungal metabolites.

Building on this foundation, Jesse’s research interest largely centres on computational drug delivery and translational pharmacology. In the Ramesh Lab, Jesse is interested in understanding the physicochemical behaviour of Ionic liquids as novel carriers for biologics (proteins, peptides, nucleic acids). He also focuses on improving the solubility, stability and sustained release of biological therapeutics through rational formulation design. The goal here is to develop long acting injectable platforms that can improve patient adherence and therapeutic outcomes. He is driven by a goal of bridging computational tools with experimental research to help translate the lab’s findings into practical, patient-centered solutions.

Jesse enjoys playing football, exploring new music, and staying active outdoors when he is not in the lab.
